The Three Nurse Assistant Team Partnership (8-Hour Shift-Seven Days A Week)

A method of organizing three nursing assistants into a team partnership responsible to care for a particular group/section of patients on a particular shift in your nursing home is being utilized as part of a trial research project.  The goal of the project is to demonstrate that the method will enable the staff team members to provide better quality care more efficiently than by other typical nursing home staffing and scheduling methods.  Some of the basic features are as follows:

 ·       Patients will be cared for by scheduled full time nursing assistants thereby eliminating reliance on part-time or costly temporary or overtime employees.

 ·       Patients and families will know by examining a unique consistent and continuous scheduling method exactly which team members will be responsible for the care on any given day.

 ·       Patient and families will be able to rely on a cohesive team of nursing assistants who will be better prepared due to the unique scheduling method to deal with the changing day to day patient needs.

 ·       Nursing assistant team members will never be scheduled to work more than four days in a row to eliminate some exhaustion factors related to their hard work.

 ·       Nursing assistant team members, due to the unique scheduling method, will spend an equal amount of time working together with each other for more cohesion and continuity in care.

 ·       Nursing assistants will be empowered as a team, rather than as individuals, to ensure greater responsibility and accountability for the care provided to patients.

 ·       Nursing assistants will be able to develop leadership abilities with the team concept to advance their careers while creating higher competency levels that benefit patients.
